In our laboratory, we utilize a Systems Biology approach to delve into the complexities of breast cancer. Our research focuses on understanding the nuanced interactions among phenotypic, genetic, and environmental factors in cancer development. We place particular emphasis on luminal A tumors, exploring the varied susceptibility, progression, and treatment responses among individuals. Although these tumors typically have better short-term outcomes, our goal is to uncover patient subgroups who unexpectedly experience poor outcomes and a higher risk of long-term recurrence. This research is vital for developing personalized and more effective treatment plans to enhance patient prognosis and care. A key aspect of our preventative research is examining the link between breast involution post-lactation and the risk of breast cancer. This investigation is essential for uncovering potential connections between post-breastfeeding physiological changes and breast cancer risk, with the aim of finding new preventive measures. By integrating systems biology into our studies, we are tackling the complexities of cancer, with a focus on breast and skin cancers. Our work is instrumental in pushing the boundaries of personalized medicine. By analyzing the interplay of genetic, phenotypic, and environmental factors, we are enhancing our understanding of cancer, aiming to improve prevention and treatment strategies. Our ultimate objective is to create customized interventions that significantly boost the effectiveness of cancer care and improve patient outcomes.
